Green Literacy is an educational initiative co‑founded by Jen Cullerton Johnson, designed to bridge environmental stewardship with literacy learning for young people. The program focuses on helping students understand the connections between reading, critical thinking, and ecological responsibility, offering thematic teaching units, workshops, and resources that integrate environmental education with language arts. Its mission is rooted in the belief that literacy and ecology together empower lifelong learning and earth stewardship, especially for children and youth in diverse educational settings.
Jen Cullerton Johnson is an award‑winning children’s author, educator, and environmental advocate based in Chicago. She is best known for Seeds of Change and The Story of Environmentalist Wangari Maathai, both of which highlight global environmental leadership and have received numerous honors, including recognition from Kirkus Reviews, the Smithsonian Notable Books list, the Coretta Scott King/John Steptoe Award for New Talent, and the Green Earth Book Award Honor.
With advanced degrees in Creative Writing (MFA) and Curriculum & Development (MEd), Johnson teaches in Chicago Public Schools and serves as an adjunct writing professor at Wright College.
