Centering Queer Stories and Knowledge

Let's Celebrate Pride! It is essential that we center queer environmentalists and activists in environmental education. The following resources strive to broaden understanding of climate justice and cultivate inclusive spaces in learning environments. This is not a comprehensive list of resources, but is provided as a starting point for further scholarship and inspiration.

Get Inspired By Past & Present Leaders

LGBTQ+ representation in environmentalism spans from the founding of the global environmental movement to today. Learn about past and present environmental leaders!

Center Queer & Trans Youth Voices

Don’t miss another episode of “Out & About” by EE 30 Under 30s Erinn Drage and Connel Bradwell! This new video series “explores the unique relationships that LGBTQ+ people have with the natural world!” It’s thought-provoking, inclusive, reflective, and unique.

Our Climate Voices is a youth-led storytelling platform that centers the voices of those who are most impacted by climate change. In this three-part, 90 minute audio episode, five queer and trans climate justice organizers share the intersection of queer and trans liberation and climate justice. You’ll learn how and why queer and trans voices have been sidelined from the conversation, and how understanding past movements can help us build a better climate justice movement today.

Cultivate Inclusive Learning Environments

A recently released “Guide to Gender Identity Terms” clarifies the language and provides helpful A’s to your Q’s.

Dive deep into “lists of readings, podcasts, films, music, art, kindred spirits, and more,” curated by the Queer Ecojustice Project.

While the documentary "Fire & Flood" is still in production (organize a "sneak-peek" screening), educators can brainstorm ideas for building more inclusive curricula from the Queer Ecojustice Project's list of suggested readings ranging from LGBTQ+ histories to Indigenous resistance and global movements.
