Food Waste Warriors K–12
World Wildlife Fund’s Food Waste Warriors is a K–12 program that empowers students to understand, measure, and reduce food waste in their schools. Through hands-on audits, data collection, and action planning, students identify waste patterns and implement solutions to improve efficiency and sustainability. The program builds awareness of the environmental and social impacts of food waste while fostering student leadership and real-world problem solving.
We’ve seen how this kind of hands-on experience sticks. When students connect their daily choices to real impacts, it shifts their mindset from passive learners to active stewards. Programs like this reduce waste and costs, and help build a culture where students feel responsible for their environment and inspired to lead change beyond the cafeteria.

Each year, the food we waste could feed millions of people and costs the North American economy billions of dollars. We also waste millions of tons of fertilizer each year on growing food never eaten, not to mention the millions of hectares of natural habitat lost to farmland dedicated to growing wasted food. Wasted food is a huge issue in the US and in many parts of the world. Use the resources below to educate and inspire students and communities to get involved in addressing the wasted food issue and help save our planet.
