Children's Pollinator Book: Max and the Milkweed

A child with a monarch butterfly flying near his head stands in front of milkweed plants; text at the top reads "Max and the Milkweed"

My name is Auggie Grand. I'm an author and illustrator who recently published a book called Max and the Milkweed that is designed for the 2–7 year old age group. I have a passion for native plants and pollinators and think that it is really important to get children to be aware of and involved in the support of native plants and pollinators.

My book was recently highlighted by the National Project Learning tree in their October 2024 newsletter and added to their reading list (click here to read the highlight).

I'm hoping to reach as many young children as possible with the book. In addition to selling the book I've also done remote readings followed by Q&A with schools that have been well-received. If you would like to discuss possibilities feel free to contact me.

Book Description:

Max is sitting on the front steps of his house when a monarch butterfly named Lilly flies toward him and introduces herself. Lilly asks Max to help her by planting milkweed seeds. Max happily plants the seeds, watches the milkweed grow, observes the changes of the butterflies, and sees the wonderful results that planting has on Lilly and the many monarchs that come after her.
