This five-lesson curriculum designed for high school students explores air quality from introduction through data collection and analysis, research design, data interpretation, and presenting findings as a research project.

While AQIQ is built around cutting-edge air quality monitoring “Pods” developed at the University of Colorado Boulder, the lessons can also be taught using other air quality monitors or with existing published data—making this curriculum fully applicable to classrooms anywhere in the country, even without a Pod.

The hands-on, rigorous nature of this program makes it an amazing resource for high school environmental science.

Teachers can use this curriculum with any air quality sensor or publicly available datasets, so the depth of inquiry remains intact regardless of available equipment.
