Call for Application! ESD Okayama Award 2023!

The ESD Okayama Award 2023, which recognizes outstanding ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) activities in Japan and abroad, is now open for applications.

Okayama City and the ESD Okayama Award Steering Board are calling for initiatives that contribute to the spread of ESD in local communities in Japan and abroad and serve as models for the world.  We are looking for projects that educate and develop people to learn from each other and take action toward the creation of a sustainable society from various perspectives, such as environmental conservation, community development, inheritance of traditional culture, and diversity and inclusion, and more.  We look forward to receiving your applications!

Eligibility: Organizations implementing ESD projects in Japan and abroad.

Number of Award Winning Projects:  One or Two projects

Prize: US $3,000 per project

Deadline for Application: 14 July 2023 (Friday), 5:00 PM (Japanese Standard Time)

Award Ceremony: One representative from the organization(s) implementing the awarded project(s) will be invited to the Award Ceremony in Okayama, Japan and requested to give a presentation on the project.  The scheduled date is 23 November 2023 (Thursday).

ESD Okayama Award

The ESD Okayama Award has been held under the joint sponsorship of Okayama City and the ESD Okayama Award Steering Board since 2015 with the objectives of recognizing outstanding ESD activities in Japan and abroad and promoting ESD by making these activities known to as many people as possible. 

※The ESD Okayama Award Steering Board is composed of the following organizations:

  • United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS)
  • UNESCO Bangkok 
  • Asia-Pacific Cultural Centre for UNESCO (ACCU)
  • Japan Council on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD-J)
  • The Goi Peace Foundation
  • Okayama ESD Promotion Commission
