Young Climate Authors Educator Training Program

At the top in bold is text that reads, "Cogitation Club" and under that is a row of three colorful book covers. Under each cover is text that reads, "Children. Climate Change. Storytelling." Then under that is more text that says, "Young Climate Authors. Educator Training Program. Amplifying children's voices on climate change."

We strongly believe that in order for children to get engaged with climate change and to commit themselves to a lifetime of action, they need to see their voices recognized, affirmed and amplified from an early age. The Young Climate Authors (YCA) is a book authoring program which teaches children how to write storybooks on climate change. YCA uses project-based learning, critical pedagogy and nature-place based pedagogy. The outcomes of the program are in line with UN SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for Goals) & ESD. Forty-five child-authored books have been published through this and related programs. Read about the books here >

The educator training equips adults to implement the Young Climate Authors Program with children and youth.  The 12-week, fully online course will cover the following topics:

  • Overview of Climate Change & Climate Justice.

  • Using Project Based Learning.

  • Mentoring book-authoring.

Course Dates: June 15–August 31, 2024

Class Meetings: Saturdays 6:30 PM–8:30 PM

Course Feedback

As a University professor teaching language and literature courses to a largely indifferent STEM audience,  this course has reinstated my belief in the necessity and power of storytelling. A story is not just a beautiful expression of human emotions but a veritable call to action, to which  this course is a fitting testament!

Elizabeth Varkey, Professor, Christ University, India.

I understand climate change and marginalization are interlinked with each other and this course aims to address the vulnerability of the society affected by climate change.  This course makes people think, understand and co-create an action plan to mitigate the risk in a very simplified manner, not digging into too scientific things & jargons.
