The Compass to Nature: Teaching in the Outdoor Classroom Educator Workshop

Students and educators out in the prairie using nets to catch and observe pollinators.

Get immersed in nature and how to use it as a tool to engage students in learning during this workshop. Educators will have in-class-time and hands-on practice with a group of students concurrently attending the Summer Explorers Biology Camp.   

  • Explore innovative ways to use an outdoor classroom during this PreK–12 introductory workshop.
  • Gain knowledge and real-world experience in the prairie pothole ecosystem with direct carry-over to any geographic location, any age, and any season.
  • Use this simple, practical, and proven approach.
  • Receive a Certificate for 23 clock hours for continuing education credits.
  • Practice using science field equipment.
  • Use the Compass to Nature at your school or site.

 

The workshop runs Monday–Thursday, June 22–25, 2026; it's $40 and dorm lodging is $125.
