Birds of Anishinaabe Aki: Ecology & Language

Top of the image has the Natural Curiosity Turtle Logo and the Outdoor Learning School and Store logo. On the right side is the cover of the Anishinaabe Bird Names pamphlet. It lists the webinar date, March 10, 2026 from 5:00-6:30pm EST and has a picture of Joseph Pitawanakwat, Andrés Jiménez and Junaid Khan from Creators Garden Birds.

Natural Curiosity welcomes you to join Joseph Pitawanakwat, Andrés Jiménez, and Junaid Khan (Creators Garden Birds) in a discussion about the depth of ecological knowledge housed in Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe language) names. Whereas western scientific naming focuses on the most obvious of physical characteristics, geographic range, or paying homage to Europeans, Anishinaabemowin allows us to learn about the roles these incredible flying beings play within our world. In turn, we can learn how best to help and support their populations for generations to come.

This session is offered in partnership with the Outdoor Learning School and Store.

This offering is:

  • taking place on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, from 5:00 PM–6:30 PM Eastern Standard Time;
  • free for all Indigenous participants; and
  • sliding-scale for non-Indigenous participants.
