Hi! I'm Rylee Lorenz, based in West Michigan, and a recent GVSU graduate with a B.S. in biology and a minor in chemistry. As I work toward veterinary school, I’m spending the summer at the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary pursuing my passions for conservation and environmental education. I'm especially excited to inspire curiosity and connection in the next generation of nature lovers through hands-on learning and exploration.

Experience: I’ve held a variety of animal-related roles—from farm work with horses and alpacas to wildlife rehabilitation with raptors, squirrels, and opossums, to working in small animal and exotic vet clinics focused on alternative medicine. Throughout college, I thrived in fieldwork, club involvement, and volunteer roles that connected me to animals, science, and my community.
My goals: I hope to become an exotic animal veterinarian specializing in husbandry and integrative care like acupuncture and hyperbaric oxygen therapy—fields I feel are often underrepresented in traditional veterinary spaces.
Outside of work: I share my life with two energetic ferrets, Penelope and Pansy. I love being outside year-round—whether I’m skiing, kayaking, hammocking, or foraging (morel season is the best!). Indoors, I unwind by spinning vinyl records (Pink Floyd, Sublime, and Fall Out Boy are go-tos), sewing my own clothes, and scrapbooking my adventures.
