Melissa King is an elementary school librarian in Montgomery County Public Schools. She is an active member of the Maryland Association of School Librarians and the Montgomery County Educational Media Staff Association. She serves on the Gaithersburg Book Festival planning committee and on the Friends of the Library, Montgomery County Board of Trustees. She is an active member of the Maryland Association of Environmental and Outdoor Education.  She holds a BS in Business Administration from the University of Southern Maine and a Master of Library Science from the University of Maryland’s iSchool. She loves learning about, spending time in, and photographing the outdoors.

Melissa King, the Creative Librarian, is an elementary school librarian in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). She is an active member of the Maryland Association of School Librarians (MASL) and the Montgomery County Educational Media Staff Association (MCEMSA). She serves on the Gaithersburg Book Festival planning committee and on the Friends of the Library, Montgomery County (FOLMC) Board of Trustees. certification in K-12 School Library Media and concentration in Information for Diverse Populations.

She is an active member of the Maryland Association of Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE).  She holds a BS in Business Administration from the University of Southern Maine (1988) and a Master of Library Science. with a certification in K-12 School Library Media and concentration in Information for Diverse Populations, from the University of Maryland’s iSchool (2012).

In addition to becoming a future published children’s author, her next goal is to earn her environmental educator certificate.

She has led her school to become a Maryland Green School, is the lead teacher for the School Energy and Team, and leads her schools grade 3-5 Green Teams.  In addition, she has partnered with Nature Forward, Conservation Nation, and the University of Maryland, Extension SNAP-Ed program to bring many wonderful experiences to her students. She loves learning about, spending time in, and photographing the outdoors.
