Visualizing Change Toolkit
“Visualizing Change” is a website [ http://vischange.org/ ] that provides a toolkit full of examples and dynamic visuals and builds on advances in cognitive and social science research, to enable informal educators to use visual narratives on climate change to more effectively reach diverse audiences. With NOAA funding, a collaborative of informal education institutions built this innovative collection of resources for reaching the public. Each example uses “frames” to tell a story in a way that connects with people’s values and mental models in a way that makes sense to them. Most of the examples center on the 75% of our planet that is ocean.
If you want to understand what cognitive and psychological research says about how to communicate with public audiences and need some inspiration regarding how to more effectively convey climate change concepts to your audiences, I encourage you to take a look at the resources you’ll find here!

Visualize Change Webinar Notice
Learn ways you and your team can engage audiences with topics of climate and ocean change:
· using narratives with global data visuals
· using the best practices based on targeted social and cognitive research
When:
· Dates: Thursday, August 24th AND September 7th
· Time: 10:00a-1:00p PST / 1:00-3:00p EST
What you can expect to gain:
· Four visual narratives, suitable to be used on a spherical screen (such as Science on a Sphere®, Magic Planet®, or HyperGlobe®), flat screen, or handheld tablet.
· Theory, based on social and cognitive sciences, used to develop the visual narratives.
· Opportunities to practice and models for training other colleagues to use these materials.
· A toolkit to take back to your institution - including the four visual narratives, background information about the theoretical basis for each narrative, relevant climate and ocean science information and videos that illustrate each visual narrative being used by an educator.
