Circling the Sun, Racing the Wind Book

Here’s a book, Circling the Sun, Racing the Wind, that offers challenging, arts-infused, outdoor games; creative dramatics; attentively drawn activity pages; and more—for youngsters ages 3–12. The activities are suitable for use in both formal and non-formal settings. The projects point towards the development of engaging and energizing ways of enculturating youngsters regarding 21st century science, while at the same time nurturing their creative imaginations, physical health, sociability, capacities for the arts, and love of Nature. They help children learn about (and empathize with) the everyday lives of other beings and the beautifully complex, yet ultimately strangely simple, ecological relationships of Place, in this instance within the temperate forestlands of Northeastern North America.
The NGSS are specifically addressed for each of the more than 25 games, even as educational practices are set forth which can lead to more empowering, inclusive, and compassionate understandings of the Biosphere which birthed and sustains us all. By employing evolutionarily harmonious forms of socialization and learning, loosely based upon aesthetically rich and enjoyable traditional children’s games, environmental education of this kind seeks to generate more fully informed, Nature-connected, and zestful young people.
