Water is life—it nourishes our planet, supports all living things, and connects us in countless ways. But water also needs our help.

In celebration of World Water Day on March 22, we invite all young artists to participate in our Give an Hour for Earth campaign by creating unique artistic interpretations of why we need water and why water needs us.

The Give an Hour for Earth: World Water Day youth art gallery is designed for young people to let their creativity shine while sharing the importance of freshwater.

What is the WWF Give an Hour for Earth campaign?

Give an Hour for Earth is a collective movement where people are encouraged to dedicate one hour of their time to doing an environmentally positive activity, reminding us that small actions can lead to big change.

Who can enter?

Family members and educators above the age of 18 can submit artwork on behalf of the children or students (grades K–12) in their lives. On the submission form, you will be asked to include the first name(s) of the individual(s) or the name of the class/group.

What type of art can we submit?

The artwork could be a drawing, painting, sculpture, digital creation, mural, collage, mosaic, etc. – anything of the visual arts that speaks to you. You will be asked to attach a photo of the piece, so keep that in mind, as the more detail that can be visible in the photo, the better.

How will the artwork be judged?

A team of judges from WWF will carefully review each piece of artwork and grade it, based on the following criteria: creativity, visual impact, relevance to the theme, and clarity of the message.

Do we win anything?

The top-scoring submissions (as determined by a group of judges from WWF) will have their artwork featured on the WWF website and will receive a WWF education goodie bag.

What types of things should we include in the artwork?

We encourage all those participating to embrace their creativity and reflect their own interpretation of freshwater—this could include freshwater habitats and species, why we need freshwater, how you use freshwater, water pollution and other threats, how we can help protect and conserve freshwater, etc.

What is the deadline to enter?

The last call for entries will be on Earth Day, April 22.
