A new hands-on environmental STEM enrichment curriculum using the award-winning documentary Point of No Return – the gripping story of the first solar-powered flight around the world – as a dynamic jumping off point to inspire students to innovate and collaborate towards sustainable solutions.  The inquiry-based  curriculum is focused on renewable energy, sustainability and climate solutions, for upper elementary (3rd-5th), middle school, and high school classrooms across the US and ultimately, internationally. As students tackle design challenges such as engineering a solar powered machine, building a battery, or designing the energy plan for a sustainable city, they will experiment and tinker, try and fail, and imagine creative sustainable solutions. The curriculum is tied to Next Generation Science Standards and based in the four C’s of 21st century learning- Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, and Communication – key elements to the success of Solar Impulse’s pioneering zero-fuel flight around the world. Through foundation grants and donations to this non-profit initiative we are providing the program at no cost to underserved Title 1 schools that serve low income communities – increasing environmental literacy and STEM learning where it is needed most.
