FREE Marine Conservation Curriculum

Migration is an important concept in environmental education. The term is probably most closely associated with birds, but is not exclusively limited to those with wings. In fact, Florida is currently witnessing a very different kind of migration: sharks. In addition to the annual migration of blacktip sharks, there have also been several “pings” from a few rather famous great white sharks named Miss May, Katharine, and Miss Costa in the past few weeks. The “pings” are part of a satellite tracking program implemented by OCEARCH.

In addition to providing access to their satellite data on a variety of marine species (including a variety of sharks, whales, turtles, etc.), OCEARCH has created a variety of STEM-based lesson plans for grades K-8 that can help to incorporate marine science and conservation into any classroom setting. Comprehensive lessons are divided into different topics such as math, science, social studies, English, and biology. Best of all: the lessons are FREE.
