Cultural Relevancy Organizational Survey
Back in January, I was fortunate to attend the "Cultural Relevancy and Inclusion in Outdoor Organizations" meeting in Berkeley, CA. This inspiring and useful meeting brought together leaders and decision makers from all over California to learn, discuss, and share resources.
Youth Outside, one of the hosting organizations, works to, "connect youth to nature by eliminating barriers, providing resources, and promoting outdoor programming as essential for building healthy lives and inspiring future stewards of the planet". This incredible organization has, among many resources, created this survey to help organizations assess their own cultural relevancy across several parameters, including hiring, staff development & retention, and community engagement. We practiced using this tool at the meeting, and I found it very helpful in guiding my organization's efforts in improving inclusivity.
