Book: What the Seahorse Told Me
As a long-time Environmental Educator and new Upper Elementary School teacher, I am excited to share my thoughts on Mary Knight's latest book, What the Seahorse Told Me. The book is the perfect way to spark the imagination of my 4th and 5th-grade readers to help them develop a love of reading. However, I am most excited that it will open a broader discussion about conservation and protecting the environment. The story provides a perfect opportunity to teach students about global environmental issues impacting our world today. It creates a platform for meaningful discussions that can lead to a deeper understanding and empathy for animals and the world around us.
What the Seahorse Told Me is an inspiring story about how a young girl with Hawaiian roots learns the power of using her unique gifts to make the world a better place. The book's main character, Sophie Kia, deeply connects and empathizes with animals. This empathy leads her on a quest, and all along the way, we see how much the world needs her—and all of us—to share that empathy. The book urges the readers to think about global environmental issues and calls us all to action, to use our voices and gifts to protect ocean animals and the world around us."
