Training Opportunity at the North Carolina Zoo

Playing Out is a three-level training course on the value of play, practical applications for playwork, and exploring outdoor spaces for play. Playing Out emphasizes play in nature and how to take advantage of the many affordances provided by outdoor environments.  Participants can take the workshops as stand-alone training or attend all three pieces of training to gain a deeper understanding of the value of play and strategies for supporting the play process outside.  Certificates are presented upon completion of each module and for completion of the entire course.

Playing Out: Foundations of Play is an intensive training that focuses on the value of play and the importance of the adult in service of playing children (playwork). Activities encourage deeper thinking into our role in children’s play and playful learning experiences outdoors, and we will explore open-ended creative methods using approaches employed in the playwork profession. The workshop’s aim is to help participants’ build the knowledge, skills, motivation and confidence to enhance opportunities for exploration, discovery, and play outdoors. Playful, inspired, engaged adults can make a difference!

Participants will receive a nature play and learning resource packet and a certificate of completion for the number of instructional hours. (This may be used to seek approval for continuing education units and to meet eligibility Criteria II for the North Carolina Environmental Education Certification Program).
