In this lesson, we’ll be applying some of the key concepts of civic engagement for environmental issues through a simple scenario. This scenario is based on materials developed for community forums by the CIVIC program (Community Voices, Informed Choices), which is a partnership between the extension offices of the University of Florida and Florida A&M University. CIVIC is modeled on the National Issues Forums, which NAAEE and the Kettering Foundation have also adapted into a series of environmental issues forums.
In this scenario, you will be asked to consider a hypothetical community forum that brings together a wide range of stakeholders to discuss development and environmental conservation tradeoffs. Let’s go… to Grumpy Manatee Lagoon!
