Environmental education and civic engagement are interconnected.
Environmental education builds the knowledge and skills to help people of all ages and backgrounds make better personal decisions, become engaged in civic life, and build healthier communities that can better address the environmental, economic, and social challenges we face in our communities. At the same time, civic education supplies learners with the knowledge, skills, and motivation to best participate in decision-making about their communities.
The relationship between these two ideas gives us Civic Engagement for Environmental Issues, which is a process that enables learners to become more knowledgeable and skilled in the resolution of environmental issues through participation in governance and civic life.
In this video we will explore two instructional approaches related to civic engagement for environmental issues: deliberative discussions and action civics.
