Fifty years ago, the first nature preschool was started at the New Canaan Nature Center in Connecticut and in the 1990s Ruth Wilson coined the term "early childhood environmental education." But recently, there has been huge interest and development in this dimension of the field of EE, starting with the popular success of Richard Louv's 2005 book Last Child in the Woods.
