Education about climate change and environmental problems can elicit feelings of anxiety, grief, anger, and hopelessness in students. How do we educate students about pressing environmental problems—including intersections with social justice issues—in a way that avoids traumatizing students, and instead facilitates emotional resilience and empowers them to take action?
This webinar provides:
- A greater understanding of the importance of attending to emotions when teaching about climate change/environmental problems in educational settings
- Insights, tools, and approaches for preventing traumatizing young people in the classroom and instead empowering them to act
- An overview of existing resources/tools for supporting climate emotions in education
- A better understanding of how to effectively support diverse groups, and
- How to teach about the intersection of climate change and social justice issues (climate justice)

Larissa Dooley, Climate Mental Health Network Research Scientist Advisor
Larissa Dooley is a Research Scientist at See Change Institute with expertise in climate anxiety in youth and a Climate Mental Health Network Research Scientist Advisor.
Leslie Davenport, Climate Psychology Educator, Author, Consultant, and Climate Mental Health Network Advisor
Leslie Davenport is a psychotherapist and leading expert in eco-anxiety. Leslie has also consulted on various environmental education curricula to support emotions.
McKenna Dunbar, Founder and President of Ecological Justice Initiative, Community Engagement Coordinator at the Sierra Club
McKenna Dunbar represents the BIPOC Gen Z voice. McKenna is a University of Richmond student, Climate Mental Health Network Gen Z Advisor. They are also the Founder and President of Ecological Justice Initiative and the Community Engagement Coordinator at the Sierra Club.
