Environmental Quality

I'm the co-founder of the Enviro Pet Waste Network connects people to information supporting pet waste disposal methods that are kinder to the planet. I also started EnviroWagg, an EPWN program that is diverting tons of dog waste from Colorado landfills by composting it in an in-vessel tumbler located at Soil Rejuvenation Garden Bed Supply in Longmont.

For more than 10 years I have worked on techniques and economic viability of repurposing dog and cat poop plus no-clay litter into a material to enhance soil for plant production. Diversion options include composting, biodigestion or flushing, all of which are ongoing community practices in cities including Toronto, Vancouver and Halifax. Recent waste audits have shown that 8-12% of residential waste consists of pet poop. Our organization aims to make repurposing this material easy by encouraging more communities to accept pet waste and non-clay litter in organic recycling green bins with food scraps and yard waste.
