My name is Kaliyah, and I live in Charlotte, North Carolina! I am an AmeriCorps member serving in Charlotte, North Carolina, with the City of Charlotte Landscape Management Division. My technical title is the City of Arborist Community Engagement Coordinator, and I help serve the city by creating, designing, and leading projects and campaigns that engage the community with street trees and other sustainable projects that help improve the quality of life of citizens. Outside of my work, I enjoy hiking and camping with my friends, and making weekend trips back home to West Virginia to hang out with my family! I also really enjoy music, birding, and here recently I've picked back up nature journaling and observing!

I also used to work for the National Park Service through a program called Fish & Feathers. I worked in Cape Hatteras National Seashore, and there I taught people how to surf fish and id birds! I also served a term in AmeriCorps NCCC where I worked in Washington State and completed different environmental projects at a summer camp in order to help stay within their legal obligations of an easement they had with an indigenous land trust. I have a degree in Natural Resources and Recreation Management, so I also got to complete cool courses and engage with my local community in unique ways to teach them about the local environment. Today, I mainly help manage projects, but in the spring and summer, I get to go to and create sustainability and environmental events all across the city of Charlotte, where I get to talk about sustainability projects and street tree plantings
