I have always loved kids, I had a child-based conservation group when my children were little, and even though I didn't realize that was environmental education, I realize that I have been an environmental educator a lot longer than my hire date.

I am a single mother who was a stay at home parent for over 10 years. I have always loved being outside and being around children. So finding a job where I can do both is a dream come true! After being hired while on a field trip with my daughter at Agape, I have dedicated every spare minute of my time learning everything I can about the North Carolina ecosystem and the best way to teach others about how amazing this planet is!

I had no idea that this fun job could become a career, but here I am, 6 years later, certitfied outdoor educator, working for Agape and Raleigh Parks ,teaching kids ( and their chaperones) how cool bugs are! How amazing birds are! How perfectly everything fits together and how lucky we are to be a part of it!

There is no better feeling than seeing a child hold a snake for the first time, or having a teenager who doesn't want to be there get all excited about catching a fishing spider. It fills my heart being able to share my passion with others.

I was hired at Agape in 2019. I began my EE certification then, but had several  personal setbacks where I needed to put my education on hold.

I recently earned my certificate in Outdoor Learning and am looking forward to adding this certification to my resume as well.

I currently teach for Raliegh Parks and ACE Education at Agape. I run the ACE Edventures Weekly home school group. We serve several homeschool famlies at this dropoff program. I put together lesson plans that include math, science, art, team building and ela for students ages 6-11.

When I'm not doing that I teach k-8 field trips where the topics include games, water quality, food chain/webs Indigenous Peoples, insects, avians, and my favorite, ecosystems. I love teaching elementary grades and pre-k the most, but I have also taught middle schools trips and have a knack for getting them excited. I know it's a good day when the chaperones are involved and asking questions too. :)

You can look at the ACE Education facebook page, I post the "This Week at Work" and you can see where I post weekly/bi weekly information about what we've learned, found and done each week.

I also recently accepted a position as an Environmental Educator with Raliegh Parks and Rec. I teach at the parks around Raleigh, so it's a little different than at the 600+ acres of woods at  Agape. However Place-Based education is just as important, maybe even moreso than environmental education. Helping students see a park in a different way, sparks curiosity and isn't that what teaching is about?
