It’s going to be a big month for all of us both across the nation and ‘round the world. The celebration of Earth Day has been on April 22 since 1970, but this year there’s more happening than usual.

To make sure everyone has a clear picture of all that’s planned and the resources available to support both national and local efforts, here are some details:

April 22 - Earth Day

This year it’s all about environmental & climate literacy. There are oodles of ideas for your celebration at http://www.earthday.org/

April 22 - March for Science

The March for Science and Earth Day.org are joining forces with AAAS, NAAEE, and scores of other education and scientific organizations to demonstrate passion for science, and to publicly support scientific research and evidence-based policies. This is an international endeavor with many local marches ‘round the world and across the U.S. in addition to the large Washington D.C. march. 

Resources to support education initiatives (from individual lessons to “teach-ins”) – especially those scheduled the week between April 22 & 29:

• NCSE Science Teach-In Toolkit, available to all organizations and individuals at no cost, to support science teach-ins being planned to share knowledge and raise awareness about science and its value to society – includes how you can organize a teach-in, answers to frequently asked questions, a planning checklist, and tips for communicating about your event. 

April 29 - People’s Climate March

Educators from across the country are choosing to stand up for the importance of climate change education as an integral and interdisciplinary topic for all students.
