Celebrate World Oceans Day 2018
Dear Educators,
World Oceans Day is June 8, 2018. This year, a coalition of organizations - led by the National Wildlife Federation in NYC - has come together to invite students, teachers, and school communities to make commitments to more ocean-friendly lifestyle choices by focusing on refusing single-use plastic, reducing plastic use and recycling plastic.

Background
The ocean covers more than 70% of the surface of our planet; it's home to over a million species and includes aquatic habitats as diverse as those found on land. It produces half of the world's oxygen and stores 50 times more carbon dioxide than the atmosphere. It also plays a major role in regulating weather and climate.
Our oceans are facing several challenges - overfishing, coastal pollution, habitat destruction, and acidification. But perhaps no threat is greater to the health of our oceans than plastic pollution.
More than 8 million tons of plastic are dumped in our oceans every year. We can all do something to reduce the scourge of plastic pollution. Join the campaign and please help spread the word!
