This one page handout is an easy-to-understand and visually-appealing starting point for college students who are unfamiliar with reading scientific literature. Knowing where to focus and what to expect helps teachers make appropriate use of primary literature and pass along critical reading skills to their students.
Teaching environmental education requires finding quality information on a variety of subjects and then helping students become lifelong learners. Confidence as readers of natural and social science literature will enable future teachers to base their lessons on accurate, current information.
Instilling positive attitudes and knowledge about the environment are important components of environmental literacy. We also aim to share experiences that spark an interest and concern about the environment, promote curiosity, and motivate audiences to take action on environmental issues. In our role in higher education, we not only provide these experiences for our students, we also prepare them to lead these experiences for their future students and audiences.
