Volunteer Reviewers Needed: EPA’s Environmental Education Grant Program

The application deadline for EPA’s Environmental Education Grant Program (EPA-EE-25-01) recently passed. Due to the large number of applications received, EPA’s Environmental Education Team is looking for volunteer reviewers with expertise in environmental education, clean and safe water, artificial intelligence, and/or previous grant application evaluation experience to assist with evaluating this year’s submissions.

To serve as a volunteer application reviewer, you must not have any conflicts of interest with competing applicants, or otherwise, under the competition. You will be asked to sign a conflict of interest and waiver of compensation document. EPA does not pay volunteer grant reviewers. If selected, you will have the opportunity to review innovative environmental education project proposals from across the county and provide invaluable assistance to the program.

What will I do?

You will be assigned up to 5 grant applications to evaluate using the criteria described in the NOFO. Volunteer evaluators will read each application, score it according to the evaluation criteria, and submit their scores to the EE Grant Program Contact. EPA will provide training, guidance and additional instructions before volunteers are asked to begin evaluating EE grant applications.

How much time do I need to dedicate to being a reviewer?

Typically grant reviewers spend between 1–2 hours evaluating each application. The process will begin with a training on scoring procedures and best practices for evaluating applications. Application evaluations will take place during a 3–4 week period, starting no earlier than April 2, 2026.

How do I volunteer?

Please email your resume and a brief statement of interest to EEgrants@epa.gov by March 20, 2026 if you are interested in this professional development opportunity.
