Prompt for the Planet is a global initiative to lend voices to young people and document their answers. What began in 2018 as an effort for University of Iowa student and faculty to give young voices power, grew when they began to collaborate with poet Amanda Gorman to write prompts to spark discussion. Prompt for the Planet invites individuals, classes, or any group to respond to Amanda’s prompt through drawing, poems, video, or other artistic forms. All contributions will be displayed online.

Amanda’s current prompt is.. 

“Think of one element and speak in its voice through pictures and words.   

What would the fires raging in California say to the world?

What would the wind from Hurricane Maria demolishing Puerto Rico sound like?

What does freshly fallen rain on a state in drought feel and taste like through poetry? Love? Relief?

Think of it as creating an open letter from the planet.”
