I am looking for an excellent doctoral candidate, who would be interested in doing their PhD, here at Kyoto University, in the area of climate change and disaster resilience education.

Below you can find the key info relevant to this opportunity:

  • Background: Open to all disciplines, but preference will be given to students with a background in Education, Human Geography, Environmental Studies, or other Social Sciences.
  • Topics: Flexible, but the Ph.D. project needs to be firmly grounded in the area of climate change education and disaster resilience (specialization to be discussed and somewhat flexible).
  • Language: Excellent English skills are essential (both written and oral). Basic Japanese skills would be an advantage, but are not necessary.
  • Eligibility: Open to all nationalities BUT age limit of 34 (as of April 2024)
  • Education: The candidate will need to have completed a master’s degree before October 2024
  • Enrollment Date: October 2024 (with interview held online in December 2023)
  • Funding Period: 3 years (no extension possible)
  • Funding: Admission and tuition fees + monthly stipend of 145,000 ¥ + economy class travel expenses to and from Japan
