Teach Climate Network Workshop: Teaching Climate Change for Sensemaking and Joy (Yes Joy!)

Join Dr. Kelley Lê from the UCI Science Project to learn and share ways to overcome barriers to teaching climate change in the classroom.

We know that climate change has a serious communication issue, but we can get creative in how we take it on in the classroom to support students' sensemaking in science. Connect with me to think about how we can teach students about climate change in ways that center on building their capacity as community change agents who drive positive solutions. You'll find that positioning them as the drivers of instruction through a systems-thinking lens is one big way to find joy as we focus on creative student-driven ideas and solutions together.

Kelley Lê has been in the educational field for over a decade as a high school science educator, instructional coach, and educational leader. She is currently the executive director of the UC-CSU Environmental and Climate Change Literacy Projects (ECCLPs), director of the University of California Irvine Science Project, Friends of the Planet NCSE Award winner (2022), and author of Teaching Climate Change for Grades 6–12: Empowering Science Teachers to Take on the Climate Crisis Through NGSS (2021). She also serves as a board member for Ten Strands, CAELI Professional Learning Hub member, and a Climate Reality Corps Mentor.

We understand that some of these workshops do not work for educator's schedules, so all registrants will receive a recording and additional resources to their e-mail within 1 week of the event.

We are striving to make our events more welcoming to all, with specific goals about racial equity and inclusivity. Your answers during registration will help us to know how we are doing.
