Rooted Nature-Based Learning Course
This six-session professional learning course is designed to support educators in weaving nature-based learning into their teaching practice.
Each session lays the foundations of Nature-Based Learning through experiential activities, reflective dialogue, and practical strategies that help teachers feel confident and inspired to bring nature into everyday learning. Participants will learn core routines and practices while deepening their understanding of the three foundational pillars of NBL. RootED draws from evidence-based practices showing that time in nature enhances cognitive development, improves attention, and strengthens social-emotional skills.
This approach is critically needed to address the current youth mental health crisis while also expanding equity and access to the benefits of nature for all learners. Grounded in the belief that connecting with nature fosters curiosity, creativity, and well-being, RootED equips educators with tools to cultivate deeper student engagement, align lessons with standards, and nurture a classroom culture rooted in wonder and growth. By the end of the series, participants will leave with a toolkit of resources, lesson ideas, and renewed energy to make nature a powerful partner in education.
