Increasing Diversity in Environmental and Outdoor Careers
Since 2020, the United States population under the age of 18 has become majority of people of color. However, our hiring trends do not reflect this reality.
Young people of color have been historically excluded from career opportunities in many fields and have largely been shut out of opportunities in the environmental and outdoors sector. This sector is only as impactful as the diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and talents reflected in its workforce. The environmental movement is more effective when the voices of those most impacted by environmental pollution and degradation lead the conversation.
Watch this recording of Green 2.0 and REI Co-op discussing the numerous ways that the environmental and outdoors sectors can create initiatives that foster diversity and inclusion in their organizations and engage young people of color in the movement.
