To complement the newsreel of the Tbilisi conference, we now will hear a firsthand account on the conference by University of Michigan Professor Bill Stapp, who helped organize and lead the event.
This animation is based on a letter that Bill Stapp wrote while returning to the USA from Tbilisi to update friends and colleagues. He discusses everything from the abundance of Lenin portraits and traditional Georgian food, to the high level of cooperation and agreement at the conference across divides like Eastern and Western Europe and developed and developing countries.
Later in this lesson, we will explore Bill Stapp's legacy in more depth.
