Climate Change in the Classroom: Thin or Thick Crust?

Date and Time: March 20, 2024 from 5:00–6:00 PM CT

Jamie Madson, middle school educator, will offer his insight on weaving climate discussion into his teaching and learning. Jamie’s teaching is grounded in the restorative power of nature to reduce stress, promote exploration, and ground our teaching and learning in concrete, place based education. Resources and best practices will be shared to bring the challenges of and personal connections with the effects of climate change into classroom discussion.

Jamie grew up in St. Michael, MN snowmobiling, fishing, hockey and canoeing the BWCAW. He earned an elementary education degree at the University of Minnesota Duluth and a Master’s of Education in Learning Technology. Over the past eight years, he has fostered partnerships with the University of Minnesota Raptor Center, Deep Portage Conservation Center, Three Rivers Park District, and 25:2 Solutions. Jamie is passionate about promoting environmental education, mentoring teachers and incorporating the outdoors into the curriculum. In his spare time, Jamie enjoys spending time on the North Shore, hiking, snowshoeing, and fishing.
