Krista Hodges is the Education Outreach Manager of the Dan River Basin Association. She has been with DRBA since 2011, starting out as the Education Coordinator and moving into management position in 2015. Krista graduated with a B.S. in Biology with a focus in Environmental Studies and Ecology, and a minor in English Literature, from Averett University in 2009. She also graduated from the Virginia Natural Resource Leadership Institute with the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech in 2016. Krista recently received a certificate in Non-Profit Management from Duke University in 2021.
Krista and other DRBA staff received the Spirit of the River Award in 2015, following the Dan River coal ash spill. She also received the STEM-H Innovation Award in partnership with Martinsville City Public Schools and Philpott Lake Army Corps of Engineers in 2017. In 2021, Krista received the Thomas Jefferson Medal for Outstanding Contributions to Natural Science Education from the Virginia Museum of Natural History Foundation. In 2023, Krista received the Virginia Association of Science Teachers RISE award for contributions to informal environmental education.
Her background includes work as a Park Ranger with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, an Upward Bound Math and Science Advisor, and a specialist for Virginia Tech and the Blue Ridge Aquaculture Research and Development facility.
