I am Mohammed Ali Al-Sayani, a Yemeni master craftsman and founder of Siyani Keratin, with 35 years of experience in traditional dagger craftsmanship and trade.

For over 20 years, I have developed alternatives to rhino horn. Our first phase succeeded in gaining acceptance among craftsmen and customers in Yemen and neighboring markets, creating a strong foundation for further change.

We have now developed the Golden Alternative, an advanced innovation worthy of our cultural heritage, with no commercial sales to date.

We seek professional collaboration to document our journey and introduce this innovation responsibly, making it a symbol of national pride and voluntary rhino conservation.

From Rhino Horn to Community-Led Conservation

I am Mohammed Ali Al-Sayani, a Yemeni master craftsman with 35 years of experience in traditional dagger craftsmanship and trade.

I grew up in a family whose livelihood was historically connected to rhinoceros horn. My father was a respected figure in this traditional market, yet he encouraged me to explore a different path: developing alternatives that could preserve our cultural heritage while reducing reliance on rhino horn.

More than 20 years ago, I began this journey alone. Some people doubted the idea, while others feared I was wasting my future. Through years of experimentation, perseverance, and practical work, our alternatives gradually gained acceptance among craftsmen, traders, and customers.

My family joined me, and other craftsmen eventually began producing and trading alternatives themselves. I welcomed their participation because our goal was not simply personal success, but a wider transformation within our community.

This journey has created a strong social and commercial foundation for our next stage.

We have developed the Golden Alternative, an advanced innovation closely resembling natural rhino horn, which we have deliberately not introduced commercially.

Our ambition is to launch it responsibly, supported by international conservation recognition and documentary storytelling, so that it can become a symbol of national pride and encourage voluntary choices that benefit wildlife conservation.

Our experience has received recognition from the Sana'a Chamber of Commerce and Industry and has been featured in Yemeni media.

We welcome dialogue with environmental education, conservation, and behavior-change specialists to document our field experience, exchange knowledge, and explore responsible approaches to community-led conservation.
