We're preparing for early engagement of the 116th Congress and will need your help in reaching out to your legislators to generate support for environmental education at the start of the year. This is especially important for at least 60 of the new Members of Congress; letting them know what EE is, why it matters in your community, and what very modest, but essential things they can do to support EE.

We will be designating a couple of days in late January/early February when we’ll be making phone calls, visiting district Congressional offices, and even traveling to D.C. to introduce ourselves to new House and Senate offices, and reconnect with returning ones. More details about this soon.

Here’s the anticipated timeline for preparation and initial outreach over the next few months:

  • Thursday, 11/8/2018 (monthly call): Advocacy basics webinar (to be recorded, if you can’t participate live)
  • Late November: Thank you notes to our Congressional supporters
  • November-December: Advocacy organizing in your state (details to follow)
  • Thursday, 12/6 (monthly call): Roll out of our 2019 policy agenda and strategy
  • Thursday, 1/10/2019 (monthly call): Preparation for winter outreach to legislators.
  • Late Jan/Early Feb: Congressional call-in/visits to district offices/fly-in to D.C.

All monthly calls are 1:00-2:00 ET. Call-in instructions and other details are always shared on eePRO and emailed to advocacy group members. Please invite a friend or colleague and plan to join us!

One final note--we have a need going into the new Congress for volunteer state advocacy coordinators across the country. We invite you to be a state leader, which requires just a small amount of organizing now, and coordination of outreach to your Congressional delegation two to three times in 2019. NAAEE’s policy and advocacy team will provide you with the details on when, what, and how, along with any other support you need. Anyone can do it! Please email Brock at brockadler@gmail.com if you're interested.
