In this study, the author takes a detailed look at three different streets in Amsterdam to investigate children's use of space in 2003 as compared with children's use of space during the 1950s and early 1960s. She made numerous observations of the three streets and conducted over 90 extensive interviews with children and parents and with adults who lived on these streets in the 1950s and early 1960s. To validate information from her interviews, Dr. Karsten also conducted archival and statistical analyses of historical data. Dr. Karsten found a great deal of similarity in children's daily lives in the 1950s and early 1960s. Specifically, she found that in this generation
