Saving the Corals with Kids, Youth, and Scientists in Cartagena, Colombia
Coral reefs in Colombia and the world are dying. Due to rising temperatures, they lose their colors, bleach, and then die forever. Many species are locally extinct, and conservation efforts need to increase.
Funded by the PeaceJam Foundation, the #SaveTheCoral project by Profe Tiburon Foundation will certificate five youth leaders as Reef Check Divers together by Corales de Paz and Cartagena Divers. The project will bring together kids from the #SharkClub, incoming from Guatemala, Uruguay, and Colombia to witness the #ReefCheck certification and to learn how to free dive until five meters in depth.
The project is the first step for the reef check and coral gardeners scuba diver network in the Caribbean. Citizen and tourism science will help the corals and raise awareness around Latin America youth and children who can do something for the future of our ocean and the natural peace of our world.
If you want to be part of the project, collaborate, or donate, dive into Profe Tiburon Foundation's work at profetiburon. Help us continue to reproduce strong corals and preserve our underwater forest, the most biodiverse ecosystem in the world.
