NOAA Funding Opportunity for 2018 Environmental Literacy Grants (ELG)
The NOAA Office of Education has issued a competitive funding opportunity for projects designed to support the education of the public and/or K-12 students so they are knowledgeable of the ways in which their community can become more resilient to extreme weather events and/or other environmental hazards, and become involved in achieving that resilience.
Successful projects will relate to NOAA’s mission and build the environmental literacy necessary for communities to become more resilient to the weather and other environmental hazards they face.
Eligible applicants are limited to institutions of higher education; K-12 public and independent schools and school systems, other nonprofits, including informal education institutions such as museums, zoos, and aquariums; state and local government agencies; and Indian tribal governments in the United States.
Proposed projects should be between two and five years in duration and have total budget requests of $250,000 to $500,000 for all years of the project. Please note that we do not anticipate issuing a solicitation for applications next year. Rather, applications from the 2018 competition that do not receive funding in fiscal year 2018 may be held over for possible funding from fiscal year 2019 funds.
A pre-application is required for submission of a full application. The pre-application deadline is 11:59 pm EST on December 19, 2017. The deadline for full applications is 11:59 pm EDT on April 6, 2018. Pre-applications and full applications must be submitted online via Grants.gov. It is anticipated that awards under this announcement will be made by September 30, 2018 and that the projects funded under this announcement will have a start date no earlier than October 1, 2018.
Two informational teleconferences will be offered for prospective applicants. The first teleconference with program officers will occur on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm (EST). The second teleconference with program officers will occur on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 (EST). Please note that the content for these two teleconferences will be the same.
