NOAA Chesapeake Bay-Watershed Education and Training (B-WET) grants

The NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office is announcing the availability of approximately $1.35 million in funding for new NOAA Chesapeake Bay-Watershed Education and Training (B-WET) grants through two funding opportunities. Projects supported by these funding opportunities will support school districts efforts to deliver Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences (MWEEs) to students, help school districts increase their capacity to facilitate environmental education, and advance statewide environmental literacy initiatives. NOAA supports environmental education because students who take part in inquiry-based, hands-on learning about their environment are better equipped to care for our ecosystem now and in the future.

FY22 Funding Opportunities:

School District MWEE Programming
Funding will support projects to help school districts deliver MWEEs to students or to increase school districts’ capacity to deliver environmental education.  We anticipate at least $900,000 in total funding to support 9-14 new projects.

Statewide Capacity Building
Funding will support statewide or multi-state environmental literacy capacity building initiatives.  We anticipate $450,000 to support 4-6 new awards.

Applications are due March 3, 2022. Informational webinars about the FY 2022 Chesapeake B-WET funding announcement will be held on December 9, 2021 at 1:00 PM Eastern Time and December 14, 2021 at 11:00 AM. Registration for these webinars is required: https://register.gotowebinar.com/rt/7274530975579631887

This year, we celebrate B-WET’s 20th anniversary. Chesapeake B-WET, administered by the NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office in coordination with the NOAA Office of Education, was the first and is the largest B-WET region with a proven history of supporting outstanding education programs since 2002. It has directly reached more than 700,000 students and 25,000 teachers in the Chesapeake Bay watershed with high-quality meaningful watershed educational experiences.
