The Institute for Humane Education is excited to pilot our new Food Waste Solutionary Unit, designed to help you and your students understand and act to address food waste in your community in a way that positively impacts people, animals, and the environment. We are looking for 12 middle school educators to try out our curriculum this fall.

This pilot curriculum is project-based and includes:

  • A step-by-step guide to help you and your students engage in the Solutionary Framework
  • A culminating project in which your students design and implement a solution to food waste in your school/community.
  • Interactive learning resources, including a student slide deck, interactive 'Trail Guide,' and teacher's guide
  • 10–15 hours of content.
  • Flexibility to support individual student, group, or whole-class projects—depending on the needs of your class.
  • 30 minutes a week of planning and implementation support from the IHE Curriculum Designers.

Participating Teachers will be asked to:

  1. Implement the curriculum between September and December 2024 (10–15 hours of class time required)
  2. Attend a 3-hour Zoom training on September 4th at 12 PM PST/3 PM EST
  3. Provide feedback on the resources and their implementation experience.

Implementing teachers will receive a $500 stipend in appreciation for their time and efforts.
