The International SeaKeepers Society (SeaKeepers) is proud to announce the global launch of the International Junior SeaKeepers Programme, an expansion of its successful U.S. chapter initiative. Now reaching students in New Zealand, Singapore, and the United Kingdom, this hybrid programme invites English-speaking youth ages 14–18 (grades 9–12+) from around the world to dive into the world of ocean conservation. Through hands-on experience in oceanographic research, science communication, and environmental advocacy, students are empowered to become proactive ocean ambassadors in their own communities and to connect with a global network of future marine leaders.

Why The International Junior SeaKeepers Programme Stands Out

The International Junior SeaKeepers Programme is a globally focused initiative designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become leaders in marine conservation. Through direct mentorship from global marine science experts, participants gain an in-depth understanding of critical ocean issues and the scientific and policy-driven approaches to addressing them. The programme fosters scientific research, public speaking, and leadership skills, ensuring students are well-prepared to engage in environmental advocacy. Beyond theoretical learning, participants take part in real-world conservation activities, where they collect and analyze marine data, contributing valuable information to global research efforts.

A key component of the initiative is the Science Communication Project, which challenges students to transform complex marine science topics into powerful messages for public audiences. This focus on science communication empowers participants not only to understand pressing environmental issues, but also to inspire awareness and action within their communities.

The programme also offers valuable networking opportunities with professionals in marine science, sustainability, and advocacy, fostering meaningful connections that support students’ future academic and career paths. Upon completion, graduates will join the growing Junior SeaKeepers alumni network, connecting them to a global community of young ocean advocates.

Offered at no cost to participants, the programme solely requires a commitment of time, curiosity, and a passion for protecting the ocean.

About The International SeaKeepers Society

The International SeaKeepers Society is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that facilitates oceanographic research, conservation, and education through direct involvement with the yachting community. Providing educational resources and hands-on marine science experiences to students is the primary focus for ensuring the wellbeing of our planet. SeaKeepers enables the yachting community to take full advantage of their unique potential to advance marine sciences and raise awareness about global ocean issues.

Founded in Monaco in 1998, The International SeaKeepers Society has been supporting ocean conservation through direct involvement with the yachting community for more than twenty-seven years. What started as a data collection program aboard select luxury yachts, has evolved to engage thousands of participants annually with at-sea and coastal programming. Today SeaKeepers’ mission is focused on the DISCOVERY Programme which is comprised of Scientist-Led Expeditions, Citizen Science, Educational Outreach, and Community Engagement.

As a catalyst working with governments, scientists, institutions, and other marine organizations to further its mission, SeaKeepers supports sensible, achievable marine protection and restoration. Activities take place globally through the efforts of headquarters based in the United States with offices located on the east and west coast, and international representation in Singapore, the South Pacific, and the United Kingdom.
