Funded Doctor of Philosophy in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management at Clemson University focused on Environmental Education

We are pleased to announce 1 fully-funded Ph.D. research assistantship for a prospective student interested in being part of a team conducting a study designed to investigate what techniques work best in multi-day environmental education programs for diverse students in Washington State. The assistantship will require considerable travel for up to 8 weeks at a time to systematically observe Outdoor School programs in Washington and conduct interviews, focus groups, and surveys with program attendees. The assistantship includes a stipend for living expenses (approximately $30,000 a year), full tuition, and all travel costs associated with the research.

Location and supervisors: The position at Clemson University will work with Dr. Bob Powell in the Department of Parks Recreation and Tourism Management. The student will also collaborate with Dr. Marc Stern and Dr. Kelley Anderson, both at Virginia Tech.

Qualifications: Excellent writing and analytical skills, flexibility, ability to work collaboratively on a team, a strong desire to learn, comfort with extended periods of travel, and some prior experience with environmental education and qualitative research methods.

Start date: August, 2025
End date: December, 2028 or May, 2029.
