Wilderness First Responder Class at Earth Village Education
Earth Village Education, NOLS Wilderness Medicine Institute, and Landmark Learning join forces to bring you the industry standard in professional wilderness medicine education: the Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course. The course will take place June 4th -- June 12th, 2016.
This nationally recognized program trains participants to respond to medical emergencies in remote settings. The 80-hour curriculum includes standards for urban, wilderness, and extended care situations. Special topics include wound management, dealing with infection, realigning fractures and dislocations, improvised splinting techniques, patient monitoring and long-term care, up-to-date information on environmental emergencies, and advice on drug therapies. Emphasis is placed on prevention and decision-making, not the memorization of lists. This course is designed specifically to provide you with the tools to make critical medical and evacuation decisions in remote locations. Half of the class time will be spent completing practical skills, case studies, and scenarios designed to challenge your decision making abilities. Adult CPR is included in this course.
Whether you are an outdoor enthusiast who wants to take your emergency preparedness to the next level or a camp counselor or wilderness instructor who needs the industry standard certification in medical training, this course will meet your needs.
The class will take place at Earth Village Education's facility, 45 miles west of DC in Marshall, VA. Please visit EarthVillageEducation.org for course logistics or more information. Contact registrar@earthvillageeducation.org if you have any questions.
