Fishes of Wisconsin: Identifying and Sampling Wisconsin's Fish
Did you know that more than 150 species of fish live in Wisconsin? Can you identify all of them? If not, and you want to, join us as we explore the world of Wisconsin's fishes.
University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point Professor and curator of fish, Justin Sipiorski, Ph.D., will lead an interactive guide to identifying common fishes of the Upper Midwest. Through a combination of discussions, small group activities, and fish sampling in Jordan Pond and the Plover River, you'll learn how to identify nearly 30 families and 70 species of fish.
The workshop will include fish sampling in both Jordan Pond and the Plover River. During this time you will gain first hand exposure to live fish, including those too small to be caught fishing. For those of you wish, you will have the opportunity to sample fish using a seine net; however, participation is optional.
