Partnerships

You don’t have to complete a MWEE alone! Partners can play important roles in planning, delivering, and/or sustaining MWEE programs. Environmental education professionals from the school district or local nonprofit organization can often assist with MWEE planning and implementation, including brainstorming MWEE ideas, offering teacher professional learning, and assisting with outdoor field experiences and/or action projects. District content specialists may also be able to provide access to information, materials, and resources. Additionally, community partners like businesses, universities, and government agencies can often be called on to support MWEEs by offering time, expertise, and supplies.

Partners can enrich your students’ MWEE experience by offering expertise and different perspectives of the local environmental issue. Remember that even during partner-led activities or experiences, the Supporting Practice of Teacher Facilitation is still important. The lead educator or classroom teacher should be actively engaged during partner-led experiences so they can help students connect back to previous learning and later, lead a reflection on the experience.

This video showcases some examples of how partners can support MWEEs. Watch the video on this page or view it HERE.

My first advice is find a community partner to work with you to help you make all of this happen because that community partner can bring in resources outside of the school and can give you ideas and break it down,” Ms. Lutzow-Felling
